PANTONE 186 IS UNITRANS RED!!!!
“Regents of the University of California, meeting for the first time since campus police used pepper spray and riot batons to disperse student protests at Berkeley and Davis, listened to nearly three hours of public complaints about those incidents and tuition increases before chanting protesters disrupted the meeting and drove them from the room.
The Regents then reconvened in a smaller room down the hall from the protesters, where they voted to raise the salaries of nearly a dozen university administrators and lawyers by as much as 21.9 percent.”

Chancellor Katehi’s address to the general assembly UC Davis students (by butchik)
University of California, Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi addresses the thousands of student gathered at the quad to protest the violent action towards the students who were peacefully protesting at the UC Davis Quad last friday.
This is what Chancellor Katehi is referring to.. the 17th of November 1973
The Athens Polytechnic uprising in 1973 was a massive demonstration of popular rejection of the Greek military junta of 1967-1974. The uprising began on November 14, 1973, escalated to an open anti-junta, anti-US and anti-imperialist revolt and ended in bloodshed in the early morning of November 17 after a series of events starting with a tank crashing through the gates of the Polytechnic. - Wikipedia
Chancellor Katehi said that she was there (in Athens) and that she doesn’t wanna forget about it..
She asks for a better opportunity to get to know us students.. let’s hope she does.. let’s hope she sees what we are (peacefully) standing for.. Given that she was there in Athens (Nov 17 1973) understanding us students should not be that difficult for her.. let’s see what happens..
Some images of Athens from the 17th of November 1973
^This is certainly interesting. My hope is that bringing up the Athens uprising was a sincere attempt to reach out to the community, and not just a media ploy to appear sympathetic.
I hope this is a step towards actual change and that people’s suffering wasn’t in vain.
to be fair (and mostly because i’m a soft-hearted sap), i feel that there is sincerity in her voice—that tremble, that fear. she knows that she severely fucked up. yes, she is ultimately responsible for the repercussions of her decisions, despite the fact that her orders were ill-executed by the university police. however, if she has learned anything from this nightmare, it might benefit the students to keep her around. after her experiences in the last couple of days, i think she’ll listen; i’d give her a chance to make things right. what makes you think that the next person in line will do any better?

I will admit I initially jumped on the “Katehi should resign” bandwagon. But seeing her leave Surge II (in the videos at least), listening to her and watching her live in the quad today (the Nov. 17, 1973 reference), I truly believe that she can be an advocate for the campus community. She fucked up, yes. But using Chancellor Katehi as an Occupy Scapegoat won’t stop the Regents from increasing student fees 81% by 2015. It’s a distraction. The anger over the brutality of the pepper spray needs to land squarely on UCD Police Chief Annette Spicuzza and Lt. John Pike (the now infamous Pepper Spray meme). UCDPD protest protocol had to be either crafted by or approved by Spicuzza. I think this incident slipped through Linda Katehi’s fingers, but she can still make it right. Fire Spicuzza and Pike, without pensions or paid leave. The prestige she has helped to bring to this university over the past two years can be maintained if she can become an advocate for higher education funding and for the rights of students.

John Pike and the Von Trapp family
“Far away across the field, tolling on the iron bell, calls the faithful to their knees, to hear the softly spoken AAUAUAUAUAUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”
This is truly amazing video. The Chancellor of UC Davis, who called police to the campus to pepper-spray peaceful protestors, has to walk past those same students, sitting silently with arms linked, as she goes to her car. The ultimate walk of shame for someone who probably doesn’t deserve such respectful treatment. The protestors deserve a lot of credit for making such a strong, dramatic statement with nothing but silence, solidarity, and staring.
